of virginia is preparing its first execution of a female prisoner in almost 100 years. she has been sentenced to death for arranging the murder of her husband and his son in 2002. >> this is the 41-year-old grandmother who sent hit man to kill her husband and stepson said she could collect a quarter of a million dollars in insurance. now from a jail cell, hours before her execution, she has spoken by phone to a local reporter. >> i just want people to know you can be a good person and make the wrong choice. if i have to go on and be with jesus, i know that will be the best thing. >> her husband and his son were shot dead in their trailer in rural virginia. it was meant to look like a bungled robbery. she quickly confessed to police that she had left the door open for the killers, who she had met earlier in the supermarket. one of them became her lover as they hatched the murder plot. relatives of the victims have no doubt be punishment fits the crime. >> when you play god, you are taking it upon yourself to write your own future. you get what you deserve. >> but defense lawyers say it is mora

for a rematch against martin o'mally. a northern virginia man will be at utah supreme court today in hopes of gaining custody of his daughter. john wyat says his daughter was adopted and taken to utah without his permission. his girlfriend gave birth last year without telling him and put emma up for adoption. he says that was in violation of fralt parental kidnapping laws. >> the death toll is growing in texas in the aftermath of tropical storm hermine. two people have died from rain associated with that storm. this comes after a number of dramatic reves like this. firefighters in arlington, texas pulling a woman to safety. check out this dramatic video from dallas. you'll see a tornado forming tearing apart a section of a rail chard. that twister slammed a truck into a warehouse. that was one of several tornados that touched down throughout the day. >> wildfires in colorado are burning out of control for a third day and four people are still missing. flames burning destroyed at least 136 homes so far. that makes this the most destructive series of wildfires in colorado history. many of th

fire claimed the lives of 27 thoroughbred horses near charles town, west virginia. three barns went up in flames in ranson west virginia. flames could be seen shooting 50 feet in the air. dozens of workers nearby tried to help the animals. they were able to save 20 but flames were said to have spread too quickly. firefighters aren't ruling out anything at this point. >>> excitement in northern virginia this morning as more kids head back to school. today we spoke with dr. pat murphy, superintendent of arlington county public schools about changes in store for the kids this clear, including healthier foods and subjects and the superintendent said the most important thing is to start at home. >> we have excellent support here, is parent engagement. we want to see parents at school and engaged in what is going on. >> in fairfax county, teachers find a focus on high quality learnings to encourage kids to explore specific areas of study. >>> plans to burn the coran in the united states spark a massive protest in afghanistan. coming up, why a preacher here in the u.s. is planning to burn the

to report on the outer loop in virginia. as you commute to the outer loop, this is the beltway at route 1 at college park, the inner loop very slow as you continue around toward the ikea and the bw parkway into the sun. the outer loop of the become slowing from the -- beltway slowing from georgia avenue. on this top stretch, the lanes are open. a big car fire, still smoking with the black smoke still coming up. outer loop of the beltway at robinson terminal before you commit to springfield inter change, that's where the two right lanes are closed due to the fire and look for braddock headed toward the exit for 95 south. this is the inner loop and this is rubbernecking, slow from the springfield interchange toward 66. on the inner loop everything is open. again it is the outer loop, right side of the road blocked with the car fire. still seeing black smoke which means this thing is still on fire. two right lanes are blocked. delays from braddock toward the springfield interchange. this is a check of your fox 5 on-time traffic. >>> making -- making headlines, the potomac river is cleaner to
